I have had a fantastic time working in Weybridge over the past 8 and 1/2 years, it has been a privilege to support patients and be trusted with many aspects of their health. Working with such a supportive, motivated and friendly team committed to providing high quality patient care has been inspiring. We are lucky in Weybridge to have an amazing health facility in the heart of the community, I am sad to leave wonderful patients and colleagues but am equally excited about my new adventure in Laos.
Patients registered with me will be transferred to Dr. Bhavisha Patel, who has been part of the team since August 2012. As before patients can see any doctor of their choice.
Taking a sabbatical, volunteering at Mae La Refugee camp on the Thai-Burmese border and teaching English to novice monks in Laos, inspired me to consider living and working in Laos. I would like to make a contribution to improve healthcare in a country with great poverty, little healthcare and desperate need. When the chance came to work with the charity Friends Without A Border I could not let the exciting opportunity pass. I will be involved in setting up a hospital in Luang Prabang and training Laotian doctors.
If you are visiting Luang Prabang in Laos please call in at the Lao Friends Hospital for Children to say hello. If anyone would like to make a donation to Friends Without A Border, that would be very much appreciated, their website is www.fwab.org.
